Learning Standards/Testing

Learning Standards

The Washington State Family Resources Page includes information to help families understand learning standards and assessments in our state. Some of the resources were created by OSPI, and some are from our partners in education.

Ready Washington is a coalition of state and local education agencies, associations and advocacy organizations that support college- and career-ready learning standards and assessments: Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards and Smarter Balanced assessments. Ready Washington’s family resources can be downloaded for printing and sharing.

Smarter Balanced – The New State Standardized Tests

Ready Washington created two new videos on Smarter Balanced to provide better understanding of the new assessment system in Washington State schools. To view the videos, click here.

The district has also produced a video designed to help families understand Smarter Balanced and view portions of the test format.

In addition to the video, new resources have been added to the Seattle Public Schools Smarter Balanced page.

For the Madison Middle School testing schedule, please visit the School Calendar.

But wait…. What about Common Core?

Common Core is not a test! The Common Core State Standards are academic learning goals for grades K-12 in Math and English Language Arts. Common Core Learning Standards were adopted by Washington State in 2011.

If you want to know more about Common Core standards, check out the Common Core page on the Ready Washington website or  the Common Core resources on the Seattle Public Schools website.
